 Said to be 2500 years old, Lucknow rose into prominence as the capital
of the Nawabs of Awadh. Magnificent edifices, parks, crumbling mausoleums, imambaras and ruins of what were once regal houses add to its charm.
Lucknow is famous for its refined manners and genteel etiquette, epitomised
by the grandly decadent protagonists in Satyajit Ray's film, "The
Chess Players".
