by AL-Beruni in Kitaabul-Hind . The dargah of the Sufi saint, Makdoon Shah, built by Feroze Shah Tughlag, is situated here.

Kanpur played an important role as a centre for the freedom movement . Independence activits such as Nanareo Peshwa, Tatya Tope,Chandrashekhar Azad,etc., were closely associated with the city.
